Almost every day we rely on home appliances to help us perform our daily tasks. From simple things like toasting your bread and freezing your leftovers up to preparing wonderful meals and tasty treats. And as much as we enjoy the alleviated work, we must not forget that our automated friends need a helping hand as well. Maintaining the household appliances is not something that requires professional help and by doing that you are greatly boosting their overall performance. So if you wish to see your appliances up and running, you should remember these essential maintenance tips:

Refrigerator & Freezer

Perhaps the most valuable appliances of every household are the fridge and freezer. Not only do they make sure that all your groceries are kept safe and fresh, they do not get a minute off work. This being said, it is important to regularly check the performance of these two crucial appliances, as even a minor irregularity could cost you a fortune –not only in money but in food as well. The first signs of a faulty fridge are unusual sounds and noises. Make sure to remove the panel from your fridge, check the condenser coils and clean them from piled up dust. Also, defrosting your fridge and freezer every now and then is important to maintain proper hygiene. Do not forget to check the interior for possible cracks on the shelves.

Dishwasher

When it comes to maintaining the dishwasher regularly the best thing you can do to avoid some major issues is making sure to rinse your dishes before putting them into your washer. This can prevent blocked crevices and bacteria from forming. Dishwashers do not generally require much maintenance, but they should be cleaned every few months to remove calcium build up. Another thing you should keep an eye for is the seals in the washer which are meant to stay wet. If you do not use your dishwasher quite often, make sure to apply some water on the seals to avoid cracking.

Oven & Range

As much as we adore treating ourselves with all kinds of different specialities, we should remember that all these meals leave traces of grease residues and other food leftovers right there in the oven or on the range. While this cannot do any severe damage to your appliances, it is important to do clean it solely for hygienic purposes. Most of these appliances can be cleaned quite easily using some natural cleaning products or simply mixing up baking soda and vinegar. Sometimes, oven repairs are needed in order to switch a faulty fan, burner of regulator but these kinds of issues can be fixed quite easily and are not a reason for big concern.

Smaller Appliances

Maintaining the smaller appliances in your home does not require much effort but could greatly make your life easier. For instance, remember to regularly clean the inside of your microwave, just to remove the leftover food chunks. This might seem banal, but if they are left there for some time the burnt food can get stuck and burn the sides and the top of the microwave. Also, do not forget to take apart your juice maker and your blender every now and then. You will be surprised how much residue will you find there. Most of these smaller appliances like toasters and coffeemakers can easily be cleaned with a right mixture of vinegar and baking soda.
