Farmers have often had contradicting views concerning the use of herbicides. Most of the brands come with high toxic levels, posing a risk to the soil, as well as your health. The types of chemicals used to manufacture the herbicides have a long-term effect, which can be harmful even in the future. With numerous brand names existing in the market, it may be puzzling to decide on the safest option. However, with general knowledge, there are minimal chances of messing your land.

Different herbicides belong to specific categories, depending on their interaction. You must have noted that certain herbicides come with instructions on the situations they apply. For example, some will keep off weed from walkways, which are different from weed suppressors used in the flowerbeds.

While some herbicides remain sturdier for long, others may only work for a short duration. Read and follow instructions in the datasheet if you have to use any chemical-based herbicide. The following are natural recommendations for herbicides that will not harm you or your soil.

Use of Fire

Using a flame weeder or a handheld torch, eradicate destructive weed from your garden. The fire has no chemical effect on the plants, and so your health is not at risk if you chose the option. However, the method could be risky if the fire spreads to a forest or vegetation. That way, handle the gadget carefully and only use it in a friendly atmosphere. Reach the local fire department to get certification before employing the option. Keep a bucket of water or fire fighting equipment nearby in case things get out of control.

The option is ideal for eradicating weed along the fence where mowing is a challenge. The method works by exposing weed to excessive temperature, but not by burning. With perennial weed, consider repeating the process days later, as they may regrow.

Use Salt

Salt can never be harmful to you through skin contact but can be reliable for killing unwanted vegetation and weed. Mix eight cups of hot water with a cup of salt and dissolve completely, waiting for the concoction to cool. Add dish soap to the mixture, and transfer it to a spray pump. Without soaking the soil, spray the weeds gently, targeting the leaves. Note that the concoction can harm plants, so avoid contact.

Other Herbicides

In addition to the above methods, you can rely on some products to kill weeds without harming the rest of your plants or the environment. You will want to be careful as some products are non-selective systemic weed killers. However, if you use a wand, you are sure to get the spots you want to target, without causing wider environmental damage. If you plan carefully, you are sure to have a healthy garden.

Healthy farming is one way to prevent numerous health conditions attributed to the use of chemical herbicides. Organic farming has become the safest option for modern farmers. Take note of the type of herbicide you use on your land, and that way, the future generation will be out of danger.
