Window shopping can be a daunting task. There are so many different window styles to choose from, and you’re unsure which one is right for your remodeling project. Whether you need new windows for an older home or want to update the style of your newer home, here are some types of windows you may consider.

Fanlight Windows

Fanlight windows are a popular choice for older homes. They have a semi-circle or half-circle shape above a narrow, rectangular window below it. Because these types of windows are often found in Victorian-style homes, they’re also known as “Palladian” windows. The original fanlights are made from wood, but you can also find vinyl and fiberglass versions.

Bay and Bow Windows

Bow & Bay Windows are a great choice for homes with limited space. They extend out from the wall and give you extra room to sit or stand. Bay windows are made up of three or more windows, while bow windows are made up of four or more. Both types of windows are available in various materials, including vinyl, fiberglass, and wood.

Double-Hung Windows

Double-hung windows are one of the most popular types of windows. They have two sashes that move up and down, making them a good choice for homes with limited space. You can open the top sash to let in fresh air or the bottom sash to let out stale air. You can also find double-hung windows in various materials, including fiberglass, vinyl, and wood.

Casement Windows

Casement windows are hinged on one side and open like a door. This makes them an excellent choice if you want to let in fresh air while keeping insects out. They’re also easy to clean from the inside, so they’re a good choice for homes with children or pets. Casement windows are sometimes available in double-hung style, too.

Awning Windows

Awning windows are similar to casement windows, but they open from the bottom instead of the side. This makes them a good choice if you want to keep out rain or snow. Awning windows are also available in double-hung style. This type of window is typically used in windows that are six or more feet off the ground.
