How to Get Started With Retiling Your Bathroom Floor

While you may have loved the look your bathroom had for many years, the time may have finally come for you to give it an update. Once you do, you’ll not only have a bathroom that looks brand new, but also have done something that will increase the value of your home. But before getting started with retiling your bathroom floor, there are some things you should do to make the process go much easier each step of the way.

Plan, Plan, and Plan

Before you ever lay your first bathroom floor tile, take some time to plan out exactly what you want to do. For example, start out by measuring your bathroom to know the exact square footage. Once you do, you will know how many tiles will be needed for the project, where you should lay that first tile, and much more. If you’re replacing old tile flooring, you must first remove the existing tiles. You can take on the project yourself, or hire a contractor.

Do a Test Run

To make sure you don’t run into any unexpected surprises that can’t be fixed or will create one problem after another, do a test run when retiling your bathroom floor. To do so, lay out your limestone tiles on the floor to see how things will look before making anything permanent. By doing so, you can start at the edges, work your way to the middle of the room, and see how many tiles will need to be cut to size to fit in certain areas.

Gather Your Supplies

If you want your bathroom floor retiling job to go smoothly, always make sure you have gathered the necessary supplies beforehand. From your measuring tape and utility knife for cutting tile to sealant, paper towels, and other items, having everything ready to go from the beginning will make the job go faster and help you avoid unnecessary mistakes.

Have More Tile Than You Need

Last but not least, always make it a priority to have more tile on hand than you will actually need to complete the job of retiling your bathroom floor. If there is one thing you don’t want happening, it is getting almost finished with the job, only to realize you don’t have enough tile. By having some extra tiles with you, this won’t be something that can happen. Also, the extras may come in handy if you make a mistake or two along the way, or if a tile gets damaged during the retiling process.
