11 Creative Solutions For Your Small Backyard

It’s a wonderful thing to have a spacious backyard; you can decorate it as you want and spend many pleasant hours in there. Still, that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a beautifully decorated backyard even if you don’t have too much space. We give you 11 easy and creative solutions to transform your small backyard.
1 – Make a focal point
Even if your backyard is tiny, you can use a sculpture or upcycle a piece of furniture to make a focal point. You can even make use of an old ladder by placing a lot of potted plants in a row. This will give a new life to your backyard and draw everyone’s eyes, and you will be able to move it from place to place if it suits you.

2 – Vertical pallet garden
If you like to cook, you can try growing your own herbs in your backyard. If you don’t have enough space, you can easily make one with several flower pots and a pallet. It doesn’t take up too much space and you will be able to grow lots of different herbs with ease.
3 – Wind chimes
Is there anything lovelier than the soft sound of wind chimes? They are very pleasant to hear and wind chimes also look incredibly pretty when hanging on a tree of from your back porch. You can make it of pretty much anything: sea glass, sea shells, old pencils, and even bottle caps.
4 – Bird feeders
There is nothing more lovely than the cheerful chipper of birds early in the morning while you’re drinking your coffee. To draw more birds to your backyard place simple birds feeders around and fill them up with bread crumbs every now and then.
5 – Succulents as wall art
You can buy a simple rectangular plastic trays divided into planting cells which are angled enough to allow you to plant different succulents. Once they start growing, you can hang the tray on the wall and wait for it to grow. When they grow, succulents will look like a lovely piece of art, and you will not have bare walls anymore.
6 – Mason jars
Instead of boring old flower pots, use mason jars to plant your flowers and herbs. Mason jars look lovely everywhere you place them, so you can even hang them on the wall of your own house, and bring them inside when you need some fresh herbs in your kitchen.
7 – Build a mini-shed
The best thing about renovation is that you have several doors and windows left. Instead of throwing them away, use them to build a miniature shed in your backyard – doors can be the walls and you can use the window as a roof. Not only is this convenient but it looks unusual and lovely too.

8 – Stack your pots
Buy half a dozen flower pots in different colors and stack them so they look like they are balanced on each other. This is convenient if you don’t have enough space, but it’s also great because it doubles as an interesting sculpture. What is more, you can fill the top one with water and make it into a bird bath.
9 – Rain gutters
You can use old rain gutters to make vertical gardens, as long as you remember to drill holes in the bottom for drainage. If the gutters are small, you can’t grow corn of sunflowers in them, but you can grow creeping wire vine or strawberries. Still, if you want to grow something edible, make sure the gutters are non-toxic.

10 – Make shade
If you have a lovely back yard but no trees or anything else that might throw any shade, you can use plain shade cloth instead of big and bulky beach umbrellas which are unpractical to move and store. Shade is good for your plants and also for you and your friends when you want to take out your chair and enjoy the afternoon in the garden without getting sunburn.

11 – Build a hex wire wall
Another great way to make use of small space is to use vertical space instead. Use plants and posts made of quality wood such as cedar to build a stand-alone frame where you will hang hex wire. Once you build it, you can hang up to 35 small and medium sized terra-cotta pots which will give you plenty of growing potential, not to mention growing space.
Even if you have a backyard the size of a postage stamp, know that it with only a bit of creativity and imagination it can be transformed into the most charming piece of heaven where you and your family will enjoy spending time.
