Whilst you want to relax and just have a great time whilst you are away travelling, you might also want to stay active so that you feel your best mentally and physically. We’re here with a few tips to stay active without having to completely disrupt your time away with lots of workouts!
Pack Your Activewear
Our first tip is a pretty important one, pack your activewear! If you don’t pack your activewear in the first place, you are very unlikely to feel motivated to get moving whilst you are away. So, pack your gym crop tops, shorts and leggings if you prefer to be active in gym wear, or simply pack your trainers if you are planning on mostly walking.
When you are away, if you fancy doing a quick workout or wearing something other than your dressier holiday clothes to go out exploring, you have the option to do so. This won’t take up much room but can make all the difference when it comes to exercising whilst you’re away!
Get Your Steps In
Next up, make sure you’re getting your steps in. The beauty of this tip is that it is achievable no matter the kind of holiday you’re going on! If you’re going on a city break, walk between the sights rather than getting a hop-on-hop-off bus and get off the tram a couple of stops early for a bit of extra exercise. Look for local parks or trails to explore whilst also helping to stay active. Walk to a local supermarket instead of getting a taxi.
Aim to get between 7,000 and 10,000 steps to help you feel healthy and to give your body the exercise it needs to feel its best!
Hire Bikes
Another thing that you can do is hire bikes! Cycling is a great form of exercise and there is something so wonderful about cycling and having the breeze hit your face. Hire city bikes to explore or beach front bikes for a beautiful ride along the coast. You could also look for local cycling trails if you want something a bit more challenging. Your activewear will definitely come in handy here! Either hire a bike for the day or for the whole week and you will feel all the better for it.
Swim If You Can
If you’re going on a beach holiday or you have a pool with your accommodation, swimming will be a great way to stay active. Swimming is a full body exercise for both your cardiovascular and muscular fitness and it is so relaxing. You don’t need to be swimming very fast, but simply get your body moving and you will reap the benefits.
Set a challenge to start with 5 laps of the pool on your first day and add a lap every day you’re there. If you’re near a beach, do some swimming in the sea (making sure you’re always in a safe area, stay near the shore and swim where there is a lifeguard present). You will feel so refreshed after a lovely swim whilst you’re away.
Beachfront Yoga
If you are into your yoga, there is nothing better than taking a mat down to the beach and practising some yoga. Especially beautiful at either sunset or sunrise, the early morning or later night will 100% be worth it. There is something so special about hearing the ocean when you are practising yoga and it will give you the chance to fully unwind. If you are feeling stressed thinking about home or work when you arrive, head to the beach for a yoga session and you will feel like a new person.
