How to Organize Your Laundry Room
The laundry room is also part of your home that needs decorating and designing to look its best. Although you can go with the same style you used in the rest of the house décor, consider doing something a little bit different here. No matter if the room is small or big, it still needs some work done to look its best.
Therefore, here are some of the tips on how to organize your laundry room to look as fabulous as other rooms in your home.
Think about comfortable setting
If you plant to turn your basement into a laundry room, then use this opportunity to create your small getaway as well. Since you’ll be doing the ironing in that very space as well, add a comfortable sofa where you can lie down to rest from time to time. Think about placing there a small coffee table with some magazines, a TV set, and even a small kitchen to prepare a beverage.
This way, you can have a friend over and iron at the same time, or watch a movie with your partner. Just because it is a tedious job, ironing doesn’t have to be boring and exhausting. With some comfortable setting in your laundry room, you will finish up in no time.
Laundry room in the summer house
If you have a big backyard, then consider building a small summer house where you can do your laundry without the noise of the machines. This can also be a perfect place to hang some more sensitive clothes to dry instead of putting them in the dryer. Install shelves on the walls to store detergent and other supplies, and build big closets where you will keep seasonal clothes.
Place a couple of cozy chairs and a table so you can have a cup of coffee or tea here, and hang some fragrant dried herbs like lavender to keep the moths away. Fresh flowers here and there will refresh the décor in the room while using wood as the basic material will create warm and welcoming features.
Laundry room flooring
The laundry room is part of your home, and as such needs to adapt to the overall décor of your home. A nice and colorful carpet would give the room warmth and an interesting decorative accessory. Since socks tend to get lost, place a board on the wall with a small rope to hang the ones missing a pair.
Use the door to hang a rack where you would keep laundry supplies, while you can use transparent containers to store detergent and softener. If you do the ironing at the laundry room, create a separate place for you to do so with TV and a bar stool to rest your legs. If you have enough sunlight, add some plants to the room that will purify the air like Areca palm or Rhapis.
Regular maintenance of the washing machine
Perfect laundry room also needs a proper maintenance of the washing machine and dryer so they would still work and look as good as new. It is more affordable to change washing machine parts then to buy a new one, especially if you already have a matching one with the dryer when it comes to design.
Additionally, over time, the washing machine can leak and destroy the flooring in the room or cause damage with its jumping to the walls. Clean it at least once a month with white vinegar and banking soda to remove the detergent deposits and limescale. Also, wash the exterior to remove dirt so your machine would always look its best.
Painting the walls
Depending on the amount of light in the room, you can paint your walls in one color or combine more different shades. Since the laundry room is the place whereof cleaning, then some vivid colors like yellow and blue would be great to highlight this property. If you have enough light coming into the room, use the combination of darker and lighter colors to create contrast.
Pantone Color of the Year 2018 – UltraViolet comes in many shades and will give your laundry room a fresh hue especially when paired with pastel tones. Install patterned tiles on one wall to give more texture to the room, but also create a little bit of discord and break the monotony of color.
All in all
Organizing a laundry room may require some extra effort, but it is a well worth it project in the end. You can create your well-decorated private space there or simply use some interesting décor ideas to freshen up the room. Whatever you choose, consider the laundry room a space like any other in your home that will benefit from some creative touch.
