Key Things to think About when Designing your Patio
There are a number of things you will need to put into consideration when you want to design your own garden patio. The first thing you need to consider when it comes to a patio is the space available to lay the garden.
There is a wide range of options when it comes to designs, but the size of the patio will also affect the design you choose. Patios come in different sizes, and the space available for a garden will determine how it ends up looking like.
It is imperative to decide the size of the patio. Garden size is obviously important and a key factor, but you need to ensure you have picked the right size area for the patio in the garden because it can be a little tricky. If you are interested in a small patio area, then you should consider going for a chic patio because it ends up looking amazing.
Stone, curved patio
How can you make this choice? You will need to think about the activities that are going to take place on the patio. Whether you will be using it alone to bask in the sun and enjoy your own company or hosting your family and friends for a barbeque. You can also use it as your reading area while enjoying the sun. You need to have a rough idea of how many people are going to be using this space and the type of furniture, and patio storage you are going to have in the patio.
Split level patio
Adding another level to the garden are is an amazing idea that will leave you patio space looking great because it creates a ‘split level’ patio. This can be a great way to divide the dining space from the sunbathing or ‘lounging’ area. This will leave your garden look amazing. When you have a separate level for your patio area, it creates some division between the rest of the garden and your house. This is good because you have more freedom to try out different floral arrangement outside your house.
Brick Patio
You can decide to use bricks, but you need to think about the shape of the patio. If the patio area is circular, then you have the freedom of incorporating patterns to the patio area. If you decide to choose brick, then you should choose a brickwork pattern that is going to nicely complement your garden. Bricks have become a popular option for driveways and garden patio because if its ability to hold on to their color over a long period of time when compared to the other options out there. A brick will end up looking very stylish when used on a curved patio.
Mosaic Patio
If you want to impress people with patio design, then the mosaic tile is the perfect option for doing this. Mosaic tiles will end up looking amazing, provided a specific design is followed when installing it. Another way is a flash of artistic flair on the mosaic tiles that recreates a symbol or picture that means something to you. You have the ability to recreate a log or artwork that you think will add to the look of your garden. Do this and your garden will end up looking great.
Stone Patio
There is a wide range of options when it comes to natural stones because it comes in different styles – bluestone, quartzite, slate, limestone, yorkstone, flagstone, etc. You might have to spend a little more on natural stone because it needs to be transported from a quarry. The design will be determined by the type of stone you choose. The stone you have chosen for your home should be considered so as to continue the theme.
Poured Concrete Patio
This is another popular option that personally is not my favorite. When this is poured on the floor, it looks very plain and needs a certain level of maintenance. It is also a type of floor that can easily discolor. When compared to the other options, this is the cheapest to lay, but you will not be turning the heads of the people visiting your patio because it is not that impressive. If you are planning to add outdoor furniture to your patio or an entertainment space for your kids, this could be the option to go with.
Rounded Patio
A rounded patio can be used in creating a focal point for the garden. You can use this design because you will be able to bring fire pit, table, and dining chairs, or barbecue so it can become the centerpiece of your patio. A rounded patio can easily blend with the background and design of the garden. This will also be affected by the space you have planned for the garden patio.
Square patios
This is the most common shape, and there is a good chance you have seen one. The reasons why square patios have become popular is because is a cost-effective design. Concrete is poured into the squared patio. A square patio is great for hosting large groups of people. This is perfect if you are the type of person regularly hosting barbecue parties or just garden gatherings. You should consider this type of patio if you host regularly and you want to spend the least amount of money on the garden patio.
Paved Slab Patio
These have a long life span because they are able to withstand temperature changes. They are the same as poured concrete when it comes to their look; they look plan too. Paved slab patio is cost effective and can provide a good patio design option. They are not able to provide versatility when it comes to the creation of a bespoke patio pattern.
Free-form Patio
Free-from patios come in a lot of different varieties since they aren’t defined by their shape. This means it can be broad distances with different angles or sweeping curves. These designs are asymmetrical and are commonly involved in original or unique garden design ideas. Another great thing about free-form is the fact you can combine with other designs. You can add mosaic tiles to the flooring of the patio and it will still work well with the free-form design. Free-form can also be a great option if you have a swimming pool in the garden.
Mixed Design Patio
You can also choose to create a hybrid of the different designs for the patio. You might be looking to use brick as the perimeter to surround a patio made of concrete paving slabs. You can also decide to go with a rounded design located at the center of the garden then choose a focal point like the barbecue and mosaic tiles for the flooring. A little creativity in this process can go a long way and you will end up with a patio that you smile every time you look at it.
