Extreme weather can wreak havoc on your home decor if the proper precautions aren’t taken. Fortunately, there are simple ways to keep decor items protected even when climate conditions are particularly harsh. You can try following these four tips to combat extreme weather damage to your home decor.

Keep Furniture Away from Radiators and Vents

Your radiators or vents will likely be operating at full power when extreme cold or heat occurs. Placing items too close to radiators and vents could damage leather, upholstery and other materials that are used in their design. High heat can also damage wood frames that hold certain furniture pieces together. It’s also a good idea to make sure that furniture isn’t kept near a woodburning stove or fireplace when outdoor temperatures are cold.

Regulate Indoor Temperatures

One of the best ways to regulate the temperatures inside your home and prevent extreme heat or cold is by using a state-of-the-art thermostat that lets you adjust temperatures to the perfect settings. Some thermostats can be programmed to turn on and off at certain times to keep the inside of your home the right temperature. In the event of an emergency, you can call a one-hour air conditioning and heating repair service if you need any repair or maintenance work done. Making sure that your doors and windows are lined with the proper sealing materials that aren’t damaged can also regulate indoor temperatures better.

Use Window Tints

Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun’s rays can damage furniture and other decor items inside your home if it shines through uncovered windows. If you don’t want to have to leave your drapes, blinds or other window covering closed all the time to prevent damage, window tinting can be a great option. Like with vehicles, home windows can have tinting film placed over them to block out harmful sunlight while still giving you the chance to see the outside world from the comfort of your living space.

Use Surge Protectors

Plugging surge protectors into power outlets can prevent power surges that are known to damage household electronics. The risk for experiencing power surges increases with stormy weather when lightening strikes can spike power. Turning your appliances off during storms and leaving them unplugged can also work to protect them.
