4 Beautiful and Modern Accents for Your New Roof
Accents are decorative architectural elements that distinguish one property from another. A roof is not just about a plain chimney and a gutter. Any accent, if built right, can stand out as its own unique design. Any design, if it’s installed correctly, can last for decades. Here are a few unique and modern features to consider adding to your roof.
Porch
Install a porch for your front or back yard that is attached to the roof. A porch is just a decorative room that’s outdoors. There are different types of porches and porch roofs to consider. Gables are porches with pitched roofs on top. Awnings are sheets of materials used to screen windows and doors. Screens can cover the entire perimeter surrounding your patio to keep out insects, rain and other elements of nature. Some porch roofs are extensions of the home’s main roof so that both roofs are combined seamlessly.

Cupola
A cupola is a dome-shaped structure that is placed on top of a home or building. It can be decorated using any material, such as wood, glass or vinyl. The color can blend in to match the roof or stand out on its own. Making a cupola may be possible in an amateur wood shop. But installing one requires the professional assistance of an experienced roofing company.

Skylight
A skylight has its own designs that are just as varied as roof designs. The skylight can vary by size from small and restricted to one part of the room to expansive and covering half of the room. Some skylights are pitched like some roofs are and have grilles like bay windows. Other designs have automated or remote-controlled screens to cover the skylight at night or to reduce light when the sun is too bright.
Roof Garden
Although not as common, there are many prominent buildings that have roof gardens.

This type of garden has plants that control temperatures within the house and provide a place for wildlife to eat and gather. Rooftop farming is the skill of cultivating this garden. In addition to gardens, the most expensive homes can have rooftop pools and other landmarks that are typically seen in the backyard.
If the roof is practical, it can be decorative as well. After having your new roof installed, you should consider adding an accent to enhance the look. Consider roofing features that are attractive in addition to being durable and long lasting.
