Things to Consider When Choosing The Perfect Paint Color for Your Home

It’s undoubtedly an overwhelming decision to make, but when you know a little bit of the basics on colors, paint, lighting, and furniture, choosing the right paint color for your home can be simplified.

Here are some ways to break down the process until you reach the color that most suits your home and your taste.

Color palate

In any color palate there are two types of colors; warm and cool tones. These different tones evoke certain moods. Warm tones include reds, oranges, and yellows. These colors are energetic, playful and lively. Cool tones are for relaxation and meditative states. They could be in the greens, blues, violets, and indigos shades. Knowing this, you might want to use red in your bedroom if you’re looking for steamy romance! But since the bedroom is also the main place for rest, you might be better off with a calming color of green or blue. Yellows and oranges are considered colors that spark conversation. So they could be used in the kitchen for example, or living room area. Spaces like a den, where you need to think, often use neutral colors, such as white or beige.

Paint quality

High-quality paint might look like the cheaper ones, but quality paints have more total solids-pigments plus resins and fewer solvents than lower quality paints. This is important to know because paint manufacturers of high-quality paints will tell you that the quality of the pigments can make all the difference to the quality of the paint job. Investing in the good stuff means the paint will look better and last much longer without chipping or fading.

Existing pieces

On the assumption that you already have furniture, the color you choose should match all your existing pieces, such as rugs, curtains, fabrics, sofas, chairs, and artwork. You have other permanent features of your home such as flooring, cabinets, tiles, etc. Use the main colors of these features as a guide to choosing the wall color.

Examine the lighting of your room

Rooms that receive little natural light might need to be brightened up a bit with a light, cool tone. For a more serene look, use a deeper and richer color.

What you see isn’t always what you get

The color you see on a paint chip won’t necessarily look the same on your wall. Pick a few colors, paint some areas of your walls with those colors and live for a day or two and see which color works better for the entire area and walls of your room.

You don’t have to spend tons of money on an interior designer to redo the look of your house. With a quality paint and your own creativity, you can easily change the look and feel of a room. Look for highlights of your rooms and think of ways to make them stand out. Think of how you want to feel when you are inside that room. Go with your instincts and let the paint do the rest.
