The Story of the World’s Leading Home Design Platform
Houzz is an online platform for home remodeling and design. It brings homeowners and home professionals together in a uniquely visual community. The story of Houzz starts with a husband and wife team who set it up as a side project in 2009 when they were renovating their own 1950s ranch house in Palo Alto, California. Not content with what was on offer in magazines and from friend’s referrals, they went about creating an online platform to inspire and collaborate with others.
Six years later and the platform has more than thirty million unique users per month, two hundred thousand reviews with a five star average for the Houzz iOS and Android apps, plus three million curated products available to buy through its marketplace. CNN has called it “The Wikipedia of interior and exterior design” and Time Magazine named its iOS app as one of ‘The 50 Absolute Best iPad Apps”.
Its owners and founders, Adi Tatarko and Alon Cohen, have opened offices all over the world and have taken the company through several rounds of venture capital funding, the most recent of which was $165 million US dollars to progress its international expansion and build upon its technology platform. This infographic created by Chais Lund tells the story of Houzz.
