More of us are working from home than ever before. Even before the current pandemic, people were working remotely from home offices, or starting their own businesses from home. Then, as the world went into lockdown, even more of us were encouraged to work remotely to slow rates of infection and protect ourselves and other people. For some, this change will be permanent. Many businesses are finding that their employees work more productively and creatively at home, and employees are enjoying their work far more without having to commute or sit in an uncomfortable and stuffy office.
The only problem with working from home is that we don’t all have a home office, or the space to install one. Many of us are working on the couch, in our bedrooms or in other crowded areas of our houses. It’s not always easy. Fortunately, your house isn’t your only option. You could be working outdoors in a functional workspace in your backyard. There are many advantages to working outside, and here’s a look at some of them.
A Chance to be Inspired by Nature
It can be hard to feel inspired and creative when you are staring at the same four walls all day, every day. Outdoors, even in your own backyard, you are surrounded by nature. You can hear the birds in the trees, smell the flowers and grass, and see the greenery. You’ll also be able to feel the breeze on your skin.
Nature can inspire creativity, which, even if you don’t work in a creative industry, can be a big boost to your decision making and performance.
Fresh Air
Fresh air is so good for us. It can boost your energy levels and immunity, as well as your mood. Working in the fresh air can boost your mood as well as your physical and mental health.
More Space
In an office, you may have the space to sit and work at your desk. But, have you got room to stand up and stretch out if you need to? To take a short walk around to clear your head? Can you take your work off your desk and take up more space with your ideas? Outside, you’ve got more room to work your way.
Reduced Stress Levels
Time outside can increase your serotonin levels, helping you to feel happier, less stressed out and more relaxed. This can be especially beneficial when you are busy at work or struggling to keep up with your workload.
More Sleep
Spending even a few extra minutes a day outside can help you to get a good night’s sleep. Team your time outdoors with working, and you’ll get your full eight hours more frequently.
Fewer Sick Days
Fresh air, vitamin D from the sun, and the chemicals from plants and flowers that you inhale while you are outside will all boost your immune system. This means that you’ll take fewer sick days and get more work done.
Even if you’ve got a fantastic home office that offers everything you need to work well, getting outdoors when you can might be a great idea.
