How to Water a Garden?

We have 10 rules to water your garden, follow these strictly, and you will see the difference. Also, note the dos and don’ts.

Rule 1. When to Water?

Watering is the key process for the growth of each plant. So you need to water your garden at the proper time. The most reasonable and suitable time to water your garden is in the morning. During the morning, when the sunlight is the weakest and the ground is also cold. It is not good to water your garden in the evening due to foliage that can attract insects and creates an enormous mess too. You can water late in the evening if you wish so as it is less harmful.

DO: Water in the MORNING
DON’T: Water in the EVENING

Rule 2. How to Water?

There is a proper way to water your plants, and that is, you should water deeply and not lightly. You can water at fewer intervals to reach, but the roots thoroughly and increase the growth of the plants by supplying enough nutrients, hormones, and sugar that water has in it. If you water the plants lightly, then you will notice a shallow growth in roots. So next time when you give your garden 10 minutes of water time think twice because it is not enough. Also, it is not necessary that you provide the maximum force of water, all that you need to do is keep the water slow and deeply into the plant.

DO: Deep and few intervals
DON’T: Light and rare intervals

Rule 3. Where to Water?

Now you always make a mistake in this place. So you should know where to water. The correct way to water your plants is by adding water directly at the base of the plant near to the soil. This minimizes the foliage and mess while watering and eliminates fungus too. You should never water your plants from the top as less amount of water reaches the base very slowly. This also overshadows the plant base and foliage may increase. When you add water from the top leaves are the first element that gets in a touch of water, when scientifically the circulation of water is perfect from the roots. So you should always water the plants from the base.

DO: Water from Base
DON’T: Water from top

Rule 4. How much to Water?

Giving a good bath to your plant does not mean showering them with lots and lots of water for their entire life. You can shower with more water but an excess of water for your plants can cause a problem. You have to give just an inch of water to your lawns as per the dry spells. Use a water gauge to sprinkle water in one area for at least an hour. You can make a DIY with an empty tuna fish can as a great alternative for the water gauge.

DO: Water appropriately
DON’T: Water too less or too more

Rule 5. What to use for Watering?

You should always use a proper irrigation system and tool to water your plant that does not water much or too little but a perfect amount. Your system should be close to the ground and soil so that water can easily be connected to the base.  Make sure you don’t end up buying a simple sprinkler that throws lots of water and also does not hit the ground much and just targets the leaves. As these heightened sprinklers evaporate the water more before even hitting the ground.

DO: Get a suitable irrigation system
DON’T: Get an over heightened sprinkler

Rule 6. Give attention to the Newbies

It is very necessary while gardening that one should give proper care to the new growing plants and shrubs because they are too fragile and so heavy watering methods may harm the roots. You must have noticed some plants that are too short and lying dead in the garden with small pores. This is because of a lack of care. You have to water for a week or two thoroughly to these new plants so that they grow perfectly fine. At this time you should not rely on sprinklers for the shrubs at all.

DO: Get a suitable irrigation system
DON’T: Get an over heightened sprinkler

Rule 7. What is suitable for vegetable gardens?

If you are having a vegetable garden bed then you should use a soaker hose to water all the vegetables in your garden. While watering the vegetables make sure you hit the base first. Watering near to ground only is effective, you can use the small spray if you want to water the vegetable and leaves too. But it is not required though. It is not suggestible to use overhead sprinklers for a vegetable garden. Maximum water can be lost due to evaporation.

DO: Use soaker hoses
DON’T: Use overhead sprinklers

Rule 8. Usage of some essential tools

You should always use a watering wand to water the garden and all your beautiful perennials. Water the plants that are grown from the soil and those in containers with the help of watering wands only. You should not use a nozzle or hose that widespread the water and even wets the foliage. Due to which the mess is created more resulting in fungus and insects.

DO: Use water wands
DON’T: Use nozzle or hose

Rule 9. For Container Gardens

The container gardens need maximum care and essentials from the rest as these plants are in the containers and so proper water should reach their roots. You should put your finger into the soil and make enough space for the water to flow and reach the ground thoroughly. You should water the container garden regularly once a day during dry spells. Do not take the container gardens lightly and skip to water them. If you want them to grow blooming then you must water it everyday else they will die. The pots and container have heat that dries the soil faster than the open garden and thus you should check dryness with your finger and keep watering the containers.

DO: Container garden needs constant watering
DON’T: Skip watering the container gardens to save their life

Rule 10. Follow all the above Rules.

This one is the toughest rule to follow. You compulsorily have to water the garden described in the above rules. These rules are for the better growth and health of the plants, so do not take this lightly.

Now that you know the exact method to water your gardens, then what are you waiting for, start growing your luscious green beds and stay healthy.
