How To Safely Deep-clean Your Home The Right Way

When it comes to house cleaning there is the standard weekly once over which you will give it with a hoover, duster, and mop, and then there is the 3-6 monthly deep clean which we should all be doing. Deep cleaning ensures that not only are you cleaning up food residues and germs which have been deposited around the house but also that you are killing bacteria and improving the environments where they so often love to thrive.

There is an enormous range of products that are aimed at people who want to deep clean their homes, and some of them can in fact be quite toxic. This is not to say that they will be toxic to your home of course, but toxic to you as you use them. It is important that you have a good understanding as to how to deep clean safely and in the right way, so here are some tips on doing just that.

Declutter First

Deep house cleaning is about getting in behind the clutter and removing the dirt and bacteria which has formed. This is why if you are going to make sure that your deep cleaning efforts are not wasted, you should first look to have a good declutter of the home. What you need are clean and clear surfaces which you can then focus on cleaning down.

High To Low

The most efficient way of cleaning your home is to start off at the highest, toughest to reach areas, and then clean below it. Gravity is the main reason why people suggest this, as you don’t want to clean the lower areas only for dirty particles to then fall on them when you clean up high.

Protective Equipment

In order to avoid any damage which dangerous and strong chemicals can do to your body, it is critical that you are using protective equipment. Mainly what you need here are protective gloves so that you don’t get any chemicals on your skin that could cause a rash, as well as a face mask so that you are not inhaling any fumes. A face mask will also minimize the number of germs and bacteria that you are breathing in whilst you are cleaning.

Opening the Windows

As you scrub and clear away dirt and grime, make sure that you have the windows wide open. This may be a little chilly depending on where you live but it will mean that you have fresh air coming in, and dirty air getting flushed out of the home. If you don’t do this then dirt particles that you have removed may simply find a home elsewhere in the property.

Getting Help

If you are struggling to move heavy furniture in the home to clean under and behind it don’t be afraid to ask someone for help. Deep cleaning is a big enough job without you putting your back out and making the cleaning process that much harder. Use help to move items away and then back into place once you have cleaned up.

Specific Chemicals

There are some multi-purpose products on the market but for the safest and most effective cleaning, you should really be looking to get a variety of products for different surfaces. This is going to be the best way for you to really see the results of your cleaning efforts on wood, countertops, and tiles.

Make sure that you set a day aside for your clean, get some music on and remember, after this, you won’t have to do it again for a good few months!
