Everybody loves the good looking and practical furniture. You like it even more when it fits right in your vision of the ideal room and the space you have on disposal. But, there comes one major problem. Manufacturers and retailers of furniture often do not share your vision and when they do, the price of your dreams can be a little overwhelming. Fortunately, humanity came up with the solution in the form of DIY furniture even before the problem occurred so you really don’t have to despair. Virtually anything you see can somehow be made or repurposed into good looking and unique furniture with the healthy dose of attitude. Here we will mention some objects that can breathe a new life into your room.
Ladders
Most of us who own a house or just like to do the paintwork by ourselves have some kind of wooden ladders. Even though you think they are long past expiration date you can give them new purpose as a book case. Give them the appropriate paint job, or just leave them as they are for the rustic effect, put them in the vertical position and hang them on the wall. If you want to use them as a regular shelf you can add some wooden plates to them and make the space between ladders and the wall bigger. Setting the ladders against the wall will provide you with the nice shoe rack and if you have folding ladder, even better. You can leave them in their natural position and few wooden plates will turn them into the multipurpose shelf.
Cinder blocks and bricks
Bricks and cinder blocks can add very urban and if combined with plants very natural vibe to your home. Because they can be obtained in various shapes and sizes, you can be very creative in the ways you arrange them so the choice is yours. Will you create modern looking desk by stacking two columns of cinder blocks and adding wooden plate on top or you will throw some bricks in the mix and make the modular planter/shelf combo that looks like something that came directly from the city park? You can also very easily slip timber beams through the cinder blocks’ slots to make a bench or the daybed.
Pallets

Wooden pallets have been used for decades as shipping mechanisms but lately they are becoming increasingly popular inspiration for the DIY furniture exploits and deservedly so. For example two pallets, a beam cut into four smaller pieces and four wheels can easily be turned into the very appealing rustic rolling table. Or you can use only one of them, give it a white paint makeover and add the glass top to create coffee table that will accompany your vintage room in wonderful fashion. Combining pallet with four sturdy legs will give you basic computer desk with natural slots for drawers and few pallets stacked on two levels, into the L-shape, combined with few foam pillows will provide you with the nice sofa with the abundance of built-in storage space. Here is one more idea for the end. Take apart the pallet and sew together the small pieces with rope to make nice, organic hanging chair.

Plastic crates
While these boxes don’t seem as something you can seamlessly fit into your living room at the first glance believe us, they can prove to be very visually appealing. Because they are modular in essence they can easily be arranged any way you want it and with the few screws and holes in the wall you can have a cool looking shelf. Adding a few wheels and fewer crates stacked on the top of each other will provide you with the movable book shelf or the shoe storage unit. If you don’t like how the plastic crates look, or you can’t find enough of the same color, you can always paint them black and create something that will look smaller and blend together better. Another way to use the plastic crates is to screw few of them together and put some cushions or the leather seat on top to create a pleasant bench.
As you can see, wonders can truly be achieved when someone uses his imaginations. We only scratched the surface here, but these projects will be good start for developing your DIY skills. Once you are more experienced, there are no limits of what you can do.
