Choose From 10 Different Types of Roofing for Your Home

It has been observed that different areas have different styles of roofing. There are multiple types of roofing which makes choosing easier. The most important needs of a structure are compatibility to design, weather protection and the housing of elements like electrical wiring, pipes, ventilation, insulation and more.

Here, We List Some of The Roofing Types:

Mansard Roof:

This type of roof has four slopes, two on the each side of the house. The slope which is lower is steeper and more vertical as compared to the slope which is on the upper side. The upper slope, most of the time, cannot be seen from the ground. This is a style which is more French and does provide additional space for storing or even living at the top.

Gable Roof:

The Gable style is simplistic and looks like an inverted or an upside down V. These roofs tend to be inappropriate for areas which experience high winds. Gable roofs are quite inexpensive and they are available in many different designs. It is easy to install them, although these triangle-shaped roofs are not always resistant to harsh weather conditions.

Hip Roof:

The most common roofs for residential purposes are this Hip roof. Construction is a little difficult as these tend to be complicated in nature. This type of roof has four sides which are sloping with no roof lies which are vertical.

Flat Roof:

The flat roof tends to be ideal for commercial buildings. Due to the negligible pitch in these roofs they are easy to build. The rubber roofing systems are most common in these flat roofs. Flat roofs are easy to construct but in case of heavy rains, there can be problem of water not passing or sliding down from flat roofs.

Gambrel Roofs:

The only difference between the Mansard roof and the Gambrel roof are the gable ends which are vertical with the roof hanging over the home’s façade. These types of roofs are inspired by the Dutch.

Pyramid Roof:

These types of roofs are shaped like a pyramid and thus named. You find that most homeowners use this type of roofs on small portions or even small structures like a pool house or a garage.

Bonnet Roof:

Very similar to the pyramid roof or the hip roof, the Bonnet roof has two of its side’s slopes outing an angle.  These are used most in outdoor areas for covering a verandah.

Arched Roof:

These roofs tend to enhance the architectural aspects of a structure and are most of the times used only on a small portion of a home.

Cross Gabled Roof:

There are different types of gable roofs, and cross gable roofs is one type which offers  each of the portion of a house its own triangle roof.

Skillion Roof:

The roof surface of this type of roof is single sloping. One option for this type of roofing is using this on a home which is multi-leveled creating unique patterns and shapes for the exteriors.

Factors for Choosing Roofing Material:

Before you decide on a specific type of roof it is advisable to go through the options available for roofing material. You need to consider some factors to ensure this is long lasting and is pleasing to the eye.

Finally, you should always look for quality as there is no way you can replace your roofing very frequently. You need this to last at least for a decade or so. Give the maintenance enough importance so that you are not hassled too often.
