Find the right builder

Location
Choose the location which suits you best, close to any of your favourite stores, places, schools, friends, or family. There’s no point in buying land and building a house if it’s going to be too far away for you to happily and easily continue living your life the way you want to.

This is a big one; make sure you have a budget planned out so that when you enter your new house you can still afford to be alive. Talk to the builders, get quotes from different people to find out who is the cheapest, without compromising quality, and build your budget around these. Make sure you add some extra money on top of your budget to help with any unexpected hiccups or changes that could happen throughout the building process.
Communicate
Make sure you have a builder that you are comfortable with and with whom you can communicate. If you have any worries or changes you would like to discuss you should be able to freely call up your builder to sort them out.
Don’t Rush
This is a huge project and will need time to complete, so don’t rush the job unless it’s absolutely needed. You don’t want to end up in a home that has had shortcuts taken just to get it finished by a certain date, as they can sometimes lead to faults in the house.
