The washer and dryer are a pair of hard-working appliances. Other than just standing in front of your inoperable washer or dryer simply staring at it, read on for tips on some of the most common issues and how to fix them.
Machines That Will Not Start
Check the circuit breaker panel. Next, check the power outlet, which may need an electrician. Check the lid or door switch that can prevent the machine from starting. Keep these clear and the gaskets clean and free of debris to allow them to close properly. Check the timer knob for possible incorrect settings. For dryers, you could have a bad thermal fuse, thermostat, terminal block or start switch. Finally, an overheated motor needs sufficient cooling time.
Leaking or Poor Drainage
Check the drain hose for a clog, which you can flush with a garden hose if it is not jammed or broken. Foreign objects may get lodged between the tub and the basket preventing draining. Using too much detergent can both prevent drainage and cause leaking. A faulty pump, tub, tub seal, or water inlet valve should also be checked.
