As winter begins to give way to warmer weather and longer days, you might notice that the exterior of your home could use a little TLC. There are some very simple and creative things you can do to freshen up your exterior and improve your home’s curb appeal. Here are 5 ideas you can try this spring.
Paint Your Front Door
One of the easiest things you can do to jazz up the exterior of your home is to give your front door a fresh coat of paint. Try a new color that makes the door pop. Pick out some fun and inviting colors and ask your painting contractor to brush some samples on the door so you can actually see what looks best. While you are at it, consider freshening up the trim around the door so that it really stands out.

Repair Your Driveway
A driveway often occupies a sizeable portion of your front or side yard. A cracked and uneven driveway not only looks unattractive, it can cause minor injuries if you trip. Consider patching any cracks and holes in asphalt or concrete surfaces. Give asphalt a new topcoat to seal it and give it an even look for maximum curb appeal. If you have a gravel drive, take care of those unsightly weeds that start popping through in the spring. This can be taken care of with a homemade vinegar, salt, and dish soap solution. Then, place a few bags of new gravel over bare areas.
Light up the Night
Installing exterior lighting is not only attractive, it also improves your safety. Rather than a bright flood light, install low lights along a pathway or hidden in your garden. These can be LED lights that are solar powered or on motion sensors. This can actually be a DIY project if using light fixtures with photo cells or batteries. A subtly lit exterior can create ambiance and give your home a whole new look at night.

Makeover Your Wood Deck
You can give your deck or front porch a facelift in just a couple of days and by spending under $300. Power wash all the dirt, scale, and mold off. After the deck dries, just roll a fresh coat of sealer over the wood. Give your wood or metal seating a fresh coat of paint as well. And, pick up some fun new cushions that add patterns and colors.

Flowers are so cheerful and bright. You can add them around the exterior of your home in hanging baskets, windowsill planters, and large clay pots. Don’t be afraid to mix different flowering plants and blossom colors in the same planters. A wreath of branches and seasonal dried flowers can dress up your front door in minutes.
