Going travelling is often the dream of many workers stuck in the mundane of a 9-5, with the aspiration of getting off to exotic, far away locations. A lot of employees work for just 2 weeks of holidays a year, where they use the time to relax and unwind away from the stresses of their job. But, instead of working in a job which only allows you to travel a handful of times a year, why not consider going travelling where you can also work alongside exploring the world.
There are many jobs which can be done whilst travelling and allow you to spend time getting to experience new cultures, all whilst earning money as and when you like. Whether its a job where you can work from home, or one which allows you to get to know the locals, here are 5 jobs you should consider doing when you are travelling.
Working on a Cruise Ship
There are perhaps hundreds of different jobs onboard cruise ships, so no matter what your interest you’re sure to find something to suit. Cruise ships have a reputation for being one of the best places to work if you’re also thinking of travelling.
Get paid to see the world and interact with people from all backgrounds, all whilst earning money, receiving free accommodation and food and drink. As cruise ships are so huge, there are job opportunities for all backgrounds and experience, from cashiers and waitresses to entertainers and first aid.
English Teacher
Depending on the country or destination you are planning on travelling to, there may be a huge demand for English teachers. In a lot of countries where English isn’t the first language, there is an abundance of roles available for those interested in teaching.
As long as you are familiar with some basic teaching skills and concepts and English is your first and fluent language, then you may be well on your way to teaching others and earning money. If travel is something you are intending to do for a few years, then this is a great thing to add to your CV for the future.
Makeup Artist
No matter where you go, there will always be people looking for hair and makeup artists. If you are going to popular European holiday hotspots which are popular with the younger generations, such as Spain or Greece, then you can easily target these holidaymakers who want to look and feel great when they go out for the evenings.
You could even do it on the go when you are travelling in other countries, such as Australia and America, but is something which should be avoided if you are going rucksack only, due to the liquid restrictions if you are planning on taking your own kit.
Au Pair
Perhaps one of the most popular jobs for travellers is becoming an au pair. This is a job which is most common in European countries, such as France, but these jobs are available worldwide. There are many websites where you can connect with families from all over the world and see what requirements they have set.
As long as you are responsible and are good with children, then this is a great way for you to experience a foreign country and make money at the same time. Au pairs typically live in with a hosting family in exchange for childcare and some also earn money on top of their free accommodation and board.
Freelancer
If you’d rather do something a bit more traditional and in keeping with your current job, then you could always look for freelancer vacancies in your current role. There are many jobs where you don’t need to be present within the office environment on a daily basis and instead can work wherever there is an internet and phone connection.
It may be worth asking your current job if there are any freelancing opportunities available, or you could try something or somewhere new instead.
