If you’re looking for a few simple changes you can make to your routine to become healthier, without making major sacrifices to how you currently live your life, you’re in the right place! Knowing where to start when it comes to creating healthier habits can be really difficult, so we are making things simple with small steps you can take to start feeling healthier and looking after your body.
Eat Rainbow Coloured Fruit and Veg
The first thing you can do is to eat rainbow coloured fruit and veg! When you’re at the supermarket, head to the fruit and veg aisle and pick out a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, covering as many different colours as you can. This is because different coloured fruit and veg contain different nutrients, so when you eat lots of variety, you will be fuelling your body with everything it needs throughout the week.
You should eat 5 fruit and veg a day, so aim for one red fruit or vegetable like strawberries or tomatoes, one yellow like a banana, one green like broccoli or asparagus, one purple like grapes or cabbage and one orange, like, an orange!
A great way to get a few of your five a day in early on is to make a smoothie! Blend a banana with a handful of frozen strawberries, a handful of spinach leaves and orange juice. This is already 4 of your 5 a day before your day has even begun!
Go To Your Dentist Regularly
People often push their oral health to the back of their priority list, but it is so important and having poor oral health can also impact your overall health. So, if you don’t already go to your dentist every 6 months, you need to make it a priority. They are able to check everything is healthy and identify any issues early on, as often when it comes to oral health, you will only know there is an issue when its too late, or often not at all!
So, go to your private dentist, they will be able to make sure everything is okay and give you advice on how to best look after your teeth, mouth and gums at home.
Do 5,000 Steps A Day
Next up, you should aim to do 5,000 steps a day. Trying to do 10,000 steps a day will be quite unrealistic if you are wanting to make small and gradual changes, so start by doing 5,000 steps a day and you can work your way up from there. To do more steps, try going for an early morning to help you feel energised for the day ahead. You could go for a quick lunchtime walk to get away from your desk for half an hour, or you could go after work to help you unwind after your day so you can enjoy the evening. If you struggle for time, try getting off public transport a few stops early or parking in a car park that you need to walk a bit from, as this won’t take up much more time but it will really make a difference to your step count!
Get More Sleep
Our final tip is to get more sleep! Sleep has such a huge impact on your mental and physical health, so getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night can help you feel like a completely new person. This should always be a priority in your routine, so make this change and it can really transform how you feel.
