4 Subtle Alterations That Can Change the Look of a Whole Room

Changing the look and feel of a room doesn’t need to be a time-consuming or complicated process. With a few simple upgrades and add-ons, you can transform or update any room in your home.

Invest in a Few Plants

There are quite a few reasons why you might want to add plants to some of the rooms in your home that feel bland or outdated. A handful of healthy plants can reduce stress, boost productivity, and make a room feel less sterile. As an added bonus, certain plants will even absorb some airborne toxins, and that could greatly improve your health.

Update the Lighting

One of the easiest and most effective ways to make a room feel fresher and more vibrant is to update the lighting fixtures. Those fixtures come in a wide variety of styles, and you are sure to find at least a few models that perfectly match the rest of your décor. If the room doesn’t have adequate lighting, then you should consider putting up mirrors and other reflective objects that will make the room look brighter and more welcoming.

Add a Rug

For a very subtle change, you might want to put a new rug in the room that you would like to alter. While it might be tempting to go with an inexpensive rug in order to save some money, a high-quality rug could easily last for years with the proper maintenance. That being said, you should be able to find some great rugs at excellent prices as long as you shop around and keep an eye out for local sales and online deals.

Change Out the Switch Plates

Another simple update that could subtly change the look of a room is adding new wall plates. Traditional cream and white switch plates are extremely bland, and they often become dingy and cracked over the years. A modern metal wall plate should easily last a lifetime, and those fixtures come in a wide variety of shapes, colors, and designs.

In addition to these few tips, you should also think about changing the layout of your furniture. Moving around a few chairs and couches could drastically alter the form and function of a room, and you can easily change the layout multiple times until you find the perfect arrangement.
